Ape King Slots

Ape King is a 5-reel, 243-ways slot from RealTime Gaming (RTG). It takes you deep into the jungle to an ape kingdom, where you'll literally see primates battle to see who becomes the leader. One thing that we can say right away is that Ape King's graphics and atmosphere are definitely highlights. You can see if any other aspects stand out in the following Ape King slots review, as we cover the gameplay, features, RTP, max win, and more.

Gameplay

This slot features 5 reels and 243 ways to win. You form winning combinations by getting 3 or more matching symbols in adjacent reels, starting with the first reel. "Ways" online slots are pretty common these days, so chances are that you won't have much trouble getting into this one.

Graphics

Ape King offers a realistic cartoon portrayal of the African jungles that apes call home. You'll see a vast landscape of well-designed trees in the background, coupled with a jungle-style soundtrack. The primate symbols also look very realistic and perform animations when they're part of wins. Overall, we really like what RTG has done with the atmosphere.

Symbols & Payouts

Low pays consist of six stone royals (A-9) with vegetation or flowers growing on them. The high-paying symbols are six different primates, headed by the silverback gorilla (a.k.a. Ape King) and his payout of 2,500x the line bet for five symbols. The Ape King max win is 1,666x your total wager. This game also has a special pot of gold symbol that acts as both a wild and scatter.

Ape King Slots Features

Ape King actually lives up to its name by featuring a Jungle Battle bonus, where the primates fight to become king. You can also trigger free spins, which we'll cover below along with the Jungle Battle round:

  • Scatter payouts - The pot of gold scatter pays 50x and 275x your total stake for two and three instances, respectively.
  • Free spins - This feature triggers when 4 scatter symbols land within reels 2-4. You cannot retrigger the free spins.
  • Jungle Battle - You unlock Jungle Battle by landing 1 or more silverback gorillas during free spins. You'll see meters for the gorilla and the other four primates atop the reels. The leftmost primate and its symbol instances get removed after a battle where the gorilla wins. This increases the chances that more gorillas will land and deliver bigger payouts. However, the gorilla could lose and end Jungle Battle if 16+ instances of any other primate fills one of the top meters.

Betting Options

You can bet between $0.30 and $150 per spin. Additional options include autoplay and game speed. This slot also offers a settings menu near the pay table option that lets you adjust the game music and sound effects.

RTP & Volatility

No Ape King slots RTP figure is available, which is typical for RTG online slots. RTG gives its clients a choice between payout percentages and avoids putting any concrete figures in its pay tables. No volatility rating is available either, but we'd guess that volatility is medium based on our playing experience and the moderate 1,666x max win.

Play for Free

You can try Ape King through demo mode before betting real money on it. Most RTG online casinos let you play their games for free beforehand. That said, you can get a glimpse of Ape King before placing any real wagers.

More on RealTime Gaming

RTG has been developing online slots since 1998 and is still going strong. It has a long line of hits, such as Aztec's Millions, Bubble Bubble 3, Cash Bandits 3, Dragon Orb, Fortunate Zeus, Lucha Libre 2, Naughty or Nice, and Storm Lords. The jury is out on whether Ape King will join these legendary slots, but it may have a chance.

Verdict on Ape King Slots

We give Ape King an 8.5 out of 10 rating. This game impressed us visually right away with its high-quality jungle atmosphere and graphics. We also enjoyed the unique twist to the free spins, when we triggered the Jungle Battle. Don't expect to chase life-changing wins due to the toned-down 1,666x max win. As long as you're not expecting to get rich through this game, though, then Ape King is definitely worth checking out.
